Tracking on Mac

ManicTime for Mac records computer usage, applications, window titles, and supported browser URLs and documents. View the recorded timelines and tag time in connected Cloud or Server. The Mac app has a menu bar icon and an Away window for tagging away time, but no local Day view.

Browser URLs

To include visited URLs in the Documents timeline, install and enable the matching ManicTime browser extension. For Chrome and supported Chromium-based browsers, use the ManicTime URL Tracker for Chrome; Dia also uses this extension. The Firefox extension also supports Zen, Waterfox, LibreWolf, and Floorp. ManicTime also supports URL tracking in ChatGPT Atlas. If the application is visible but its URLs are missing, check the extension first.

Files and Git context

When a document tracker supplies a full file path, ManicTime can detect its Git repository and branch. This information is sent with the tracked document and can be used in Cloud or Server to distinguish work on different projects or branches. A document without a full local path will not have Git context.

Screenshots

If an administrator manages your client through Cloud or Server, the screenshot format can be set to JPEG, PNG, or WebP in Client settings. The selected format applies to newly captured screenshots. Screenshot capture and retention also depend on your organization's client settings.

Tagging away time

If the away notification is enabled in ManicTime preferences, the Away view appears when you return after inactivity. You can choose a recent tag or enter a new one to describe time spent away from the computer.
